Borns Bulletin

welcome 2.gif

I hope you all had a great weekend.  We had a great first 2 days in Room 42.  We have such a wonderful class and I am so excited for this school year!  It's going to be a crazy year of learning, construction and fun!  For those of you who do not know, we will be in our portable classroom until sometime around January.  Then we will be moving back into our brand new redone, amazing hi-tech classroom.  If you have been able to check out any of the fifth grade rooms, or the new STEM lab, you will know why we are so excited!  When we move back into our permanent homes, Kindergarten and 1st grade will be moving into the portables while their wing is redone.  By the end of the school year, we will have a new school!  It will be amazing, but it's a bit chaotic right now.  Going with the flow and being flexible are our mottos for this school year.  For now, we are enjoying having big windows and the ability to control our own air conditioning in our temporary portables...also known as the West Wing of Hawes.

This first full week we will be diving into our curriculum.  We will be reading our first story in our textbook, reviewing Math from last year, beginning our unit on California Symbols and our Science unit on Energy. We will also be doing some STEM labs this week.  We will be easing into homework this week with just a blog and Spelling words (they will get the list Monday). We will have a Spelling test on Friday. I do not give Spelling homework...just the words. We will be talking in class about the best way for them to study. I know that everyone has their own method.  The blog can be found on our website.  It will be due Friday.  I got them all set up last week.  Here's a link as well...   Once on the website, they will log in (top right) with their Google Account.  (Click on Log in with Google) They'll need to be logged in to their Google account before going to the site.  (We will discuss this and practice this all on Monday).  One note about kidblog....  While they have control of their own blog, I have ultimate control.  Nothing gets posted on the site without my approval first.  They will write their post then publish it to the teacher.  I go through them and publish them from there.  They are only published to our own class.  It's not a public site.  Any comments they make on other people's blogs also go through me first.  We will talk more about his at Back to School Night.

A few dates to remember:

9/17-9/21 Book Fair

9/19 Picture Day

9/20 Back to School Night

Thank you to all who have filled out the online form, joined Remind, and/or gotten the first day packet turned back in.  If you have not yet done this, please do as soon as possible.  Sorry this first e-mail is so lengthy...I promise, you will not typically have a novel to read on Sundays!

Have a great week everyone!
