Room 46’s Weekly News 11/5-11/9

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a great weekend. Here is a quick breakdown of what we accomplished this past week and where we are going:

We’ve started our two-week language arts lesson on bats, centered around our anchor text Bat Loves the Night. This past week our focuses were sequence of events, recognizing short and long vowel sounds, and identifying action and linking verbs. We also completed a mini-unit on Dia de Los Muertos, where we learned some history of the holiday and the kids answered a writing prompt about who they would honor with an ofrenda. These are going up in the classroom, but will come home in a couple weeks so you can see them!

We finished Chapter 3 in our math textbooks and took the chapter test. The students overall did great on this test, and completed test corrections to earn back some points lost on the test. Going into this week, we are starting Chapter 4, which is our introduction into multiplication. We will also be starting FactsWise this week, with our goal being fluency in our “times ten” facts.

We finished up our geography unit and will be starting our Huntington Beach reports this week. Our first topic we will cover will be local landforms.

In science, we have two more weeks with our current district kit. We have two more in-class lessons, then we will begin designing and building balloon cars in the STEM lab.

We have a lot of fun activities coming up- Thanksgiving break will be here before we know it!
